With the launch of Overwatch 2, the roster will expand to 35 heroes as Sojourn, Junker Queen, and Kiriko join the fight. The shop will offer featured cosmetic items every week for all players, and in Season One, many of these cosmetics will follow a cyberpunk theme. With this new seasonal model, Loot Boxes are going away in Overwatch 2, and a new in-game shop will allow you to purchase exactly what you want with new virtual currency, Overwatch Coins. Each season will have a new Battle Pass, every one with a unique theme and up to 80+ unlockable tiers of cosmetics. Each season promises new experiences and ways to play, and will typically bring either a new hero or a new map, alternating each season. The game is shifting to a seasonal model with new content every nine weeks. The shooter sequel will be switching to a free-to-play model, together with enabling cross-platform with cross-progression. There are some rumors that Vicarious Visions, which recently merged under Blizzard as a support studio, is working on a Diablo II remaster/remake, but if this statement holds true, then it also won’t be coming out this year.Blizzard Entertainment has announced new details about player progression systems in Overwatch 2. Blizzard has console and PC cross-play for Diablo 4 as a goal, but hasn’t officially announced the feature for the upcoming game. While we may get additional information at BlizzCon Online this month, it’s also not set to release this year. Likewise with Diablo 4, revealed at the same BlizzCon 2019 event, there have been very few updates from Blizzard on the title. No additional characters are planned before Overwatch 2 releases. “We want this game to be great for you, both the live game and the upcoming sequel.” Blizzard released the last Overwatch hero in early 2020, and though it continues to run seasonal events and release new maps, the game is mostly in a holding pattern while the team works on the sequel. “We still have a ways to go, just to manage expectations, but we’re working extremely hard,” Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan said back in December.
